Administrative/Regulatory Services
Doyle & Nelson frequently represents clients before state departments, agencies, licensure boards, and bureaus. We also handle appeals and litigation resulting from unfavorable state actions. Because of our excellent working relationship with state entities that license and oversee individuals and businesses in Maine, we are often able to negotiate favorable results for our clients without recourse to formal hearings and litigation.

Client Profile: LifeFlight of Maine
LifeFlight of Maine is a nonprofit statewide critical care medical helicopter service jointly operated by Eastern Maine Healthcare and Central Maine Health Care. LifeFlight's two helicopters, based in Bangor and Lewiston, cover the entire state and its offshore islands. Since it was founded in 1998, LifeFlight has safely transported more than 7,000 patients to trauma centers in Maine, New Hampshire and Boston. The air medical service complements and supports the work of local physicians, nurses, and EMS providers in caring for the critically ill or injured. Each base is staffed by a team of 20 highly qualified flight nurses and paramedics, two of whom fly on every flight. When weather prevents flight operations, LifeFlight crews are taken by ground ambulance to accident scenes in the greater Bangor and Lewiston areas. Recently, LifeFlight replaced its two helicopters with newer, more modern air ambulances that can fly farther, faster, and carry two patients instead of one. The cost of those new helicopters was over $8 million and involved a sales tax on their purchase. We mounted an effective campaign for them to minimize the tax impact on the important services. Our theory was that the monies-hundreds of thousands of dollars that would have gone to tax purposes- should go to operating the non-profit which transports Maine's critically ill patients and saves so many lives. We worked with the Governor, State officials, legislators, and others to craft an effective result for the client. For more information about LifeFlight Maine visit www.lifeflightmaine.org.
